It's getting even later into summer. Day before yesterday Kari and I went to ice skating. We are now both in third class!

I've been thinking. Most people should be impressed that I've suffered terrible and almost total--oh, what will I call it? for five years. What I mean is people have teasd me, pushed me around, called me terrible names, and have been making me miserable for five whole school years.

June 16.

Today I am going ice skating. We are also going to lunch somewhere.

Kari and Kim went skating last week. Both of them passed first class. I hope I pass today.

Tomorrow Mr. Balde will come to dinner.

Ozma is soaking her feet. I made a stall for Thunderbolt to live on top of Ozma's house. Two horses can cram in but I made it special for Thunder.

June 15

Hurray! Summer vacation is here! Yesterday was Last Day and I ate:

A lot of chips and punch
2 hot dogs
2 pieces of cake
And 1 piece of pizza!

I went to Doctor M's this morning. He said my first period would come from six months to a year and a half from now. That's this Christmas or the one after that!

Spectacular Bid was beaten by Coastal June 9. I hate Coastal because he beat my colt. I fell in love with Bid from the first, and I felt contempt for every other horse in the races.

June 11 (morning)

I am sick with a cold. It started the evening of the 9th.

I have a new horse. Guess who he is -- STARBUCK! Last beer can run I got $20.40, so of course I had enough money. He and Flicka were so happy! They danced all over and made love all night.

I wonder when I'm going to get my period? Wouldn't it be awful if I found out I was STERILE, like a wretched mule?

Last night I didn't get to sleep until 10:30 and cried a lot. There was a tune that kept whirling around in my head and keeping me awake. I can't remember it now.

I have ice skating lessons. I haven't graduated from first class yet. The tune I heard last night was one of the tunes I made up steps to.

The fly-up Ceremony went fine.

Mom found my silver Egg Bank. It's already so full that I can barely pick it up with one hand.

I've been thinking lately about what I would do if there was a fire. I'd slam the door, wake B, tie him to a rope made of my bedsheets, and lower him down.

June 4

Winter becomes spring, and spring breezes into summer! There's only 8 more days of school!

I wish I could tell somebody about the Chronicles! I'm bursting with stuff I want to tell -- but I mustn't tell anyone. That'll be like telling Frank Brown where a bird's nest is....

Oh, how I HATE Frank Brown! I planned what I would do if I ever saw him again. We are absolute and utter MORTAL ENEMIES!

But God said that vengeance is His! I wish that wasn't true! Frank committed triple murder and he deserves to be murdered himself!

ENOUGH OF THAT!

If I get all the horses I want, I will have a total of 32 horses, I think.

tomorrow we Scouts are having a fly-up ceremony. I've earned 16 badges this year.

April 28.

B's birthday is tommorrow. Daddy made him a sandbox.

We just got back from Cousin Mike's wedding.

I am bored and a little sad. I don't know why. Perhaps it's because I miss Lori.

I have added to my "Wanted" list of horses the White Rearing Stallion. His name will be Tragedy.

April 15. (morning)

It is Easter Sunday. One egg is missing. We haven't found him yet. The Easter bunny brought us a lot of candy eggs. Ozma is riding Oberon.

April 14. (morning)

While Lori was here we played Riding Stable with Paz, Valor, Lorna Doone, Dorothy, Ozma, and the horses.

I've got a new idea for a move: A girl hears everybody talking about the "New World in the Morning" and sets out to find it on her horse.

7:10 pm.

Today Daddy turned on a program about a roundup of wild horses. I got so mad after about 1 minute I nearly blew up!

The cowboys weren't being cruel or hurting the horses, but wild horses weren't made to be caught!!! They deserve to be left to run free!!!!!!

April 12.

Lori is gone. I am very sad. So sad, I can't even cry.

Today I bought a horse named Drama Star and Lori bought a horse named Boxey.

April 11.

Lori will go away tomorrow. I am very sad about it. She and I are going to publish a series called, "The Chronicles." It's her pencil I'm using.

March 30.

Boy, did I have fun today! Denise took Larry, Kris, Tanya, Tracy, and I horseback riding! Our horses are like this:

We were near the river when Charger rolled over in the sand! Then Tracy's horse rolled! Then Denise's Croppy turned around and wouldn't go back! Star followed Croppy, and then Pal followed Star! Not long after that Star galloped!

We got to go in the river. We also trotted a lot.

March 21. (morning)

I'm afraid that Kari, Kim, and Ann don't like me anymore. We get into long arguments about Ozma and such. It's only 19 days till Lori, thank goodness!

March 16.

I got into an awful scene with Kari. I was very cross, but when she stepped on my foot by mistake, I lost my temper. We were horrid enemies for about an hour afterward, but at the end she made up and KISSED me!

March 13.

When I get all the horses I want to get, I will have 45 horses. It will probably take forever. I have only half enough money to buy Starbuck.

On march 10 I went to Denise's house and earned 5 badges! Namely, Cook, Hospitality, Active Citizen (!!), My Troop, and Writer! In one day! We baked bread and potatoes and made meat loaf.

March 11.

I watched 60 minutes tonight. It was about Dr. Josef Mengele

That is a little bit like the picture they had of him. Next time they have something about him, I will take a picture of their photo so I can trail him.

I earned 75 cents today. That makes $3.35. I need about twice that to buy Starbuck or anybody else.

I might ask Fernando if he has heard of Josef Mengele.

I have two more composition books and am starting Part 6. Latest event: Ria turned out to be Aujah the Adept (from Glinda of Oz) and sent her out into the woods.

Today is voting day and Mrs. H. is running for the School Board.

Last night I told B that Earth was our world. But he said that "that big thing was the world." He meant the globe!

Lori called last night! She is coming for Easter vacation, all alone, on a plane! I asked her who she'd bring, and she said, "Everyone I can cram into my little backpack!"

I wonder if we could make a movie of "A Wrinkle in Time?" I can be Meg, B can be Charles Wallace, and if Nathan shoots up he can be Calvin. S could be Fortinbras.

I slept over with Kari last night.

Every time I sleep over with someone, I think of Lori.

I found the blue bag I would take to school to play with Julie. The pen and pencil were there, and the autograph book. yesterday all my J and T stories were found.

As I was saying, Midnight belongs to Kelly. Agnes is a horrid lady. She is very jealous because Nebula is so much more beautiful than she is. Agnes was going to try to steal Nebula's Ruby Star necklace, but I had to leave just then.

Anne lent me a pair of gold earrings to put in Nebula's hair.

Feb. 16

I went to play with Anne today and stayed for dinner. We pretended that Ozma was a girl named Nebula whose father and mother died and left her alone in the world. She took her horse, White Arrow, and lived in the wilderness for 7 years. She came upon Kelly's house and stayed there. There are other girls: Agnes, Irene, Geladdriel, and Carey.

There is a horse named Midnight, who belongs to Kelly.

Feb. 14

Today I am going to our Father-Daughter dinner. I hope I don't slip up on the flag ceremony.

Feb. 11 (morning).

P, M, and D.A. have been here since yesterday morning. We went to the beach yesterday and picked up a lot of pretty stones.

Also yesterday: M found a big flat rock and she and I painted it.

D'artagnan went to see Milady.

Today: We might go to the beach again because P wants to try surfing.

7:30 P.M.

Richard and David kept calling and saying sexy things. They were real mean.

Feb. 9

It turned out my bike was just in the office.

I leaned a song. It goes:

My bike was stolen.

Mom soaks my back with epsom salt every evening. During this period I read "The Three Musketeers." I like D'artagan and Madame Bonacieux and Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. I hate Cardinal Richelieu.

I am almost through with Part 4.

Today I took two pictures of all my big horses and Ozma to send to Lori.

Jan. 28

On Jan 26 we went go-cart racing. I was scared at first, but then I went twice.

I went to school and rode my bike around. As I went I made up the song on the next page.

Speaking of photos, I have only one picture of Q. Only one souvenir of the incredible bird who could climb up his cage backwards, skinny through his seed cups, and flew to me like a falcon.

Jan. 25 (morning)

It's very windy outside. I love windy days. They make me feel like trying to fly. When I try, I feel like I AM flying!

Went to beer can place and got $9.35!

Kari came today and we played with the horses. At one time I was stable-girl for a blood-bay racer named Sanguine. Sanguine means "blood" or "bloody."

Kari is replacing Lori. I must stop her, but how? I can't abruptly desert her, that's for certain. I've already forgotten half my hawks' names, and I can barely remember my horses' names! (The yearlings Lori gave me.) I HAVE forgotten what Lori looks like! Oh, no! I just CAN'T let it happen!

Lori opened up a new world for me! I can't lose her! Can I hold out till April?

She always has loads of fun with Chief Anderson, 7-Zark-7, Mark, Princess, Tiny, Keeta, Jason, Kurt, and the others. I have no fun at all, but I don't care.

I just noticed that when I wrote "7-Zark-7" it looks exactly the same as when Lori wrote it. I am fond of writeing (oops!) down things like that.

I perfumed this page with Sweet Honesty.

I just learned an unusual girl's name, Siobhan. It's the Irish form of Joan.

I went to play with Kari today. She invented two sisters named S and M T. Their father is the captain of the Galaxian Battlestar. My grandmother was Lika T.

I went to school for the first time today. Kim and Anne were absent, so Kari was afraid I wouldn't show up.

This is the King of the Js. He is covered with clothes, because he is misshapen. They are black because he is bad. He reminds me of Darth Vader.
